A 3D-effect wall behind the headboard is both a beautiful focal point, as well as a great way to personalize your decor! See how to complete this project in six easy steps!
Installing the 3D panels
Between 48 and 72 before installing the panels, put the panels in the room in which they will be installed. This way, the materials will get acclimated to the room’s temperature and humidity level, which will inhibit them from expanding or shrinking after you’ve installed them.
1. Sand each panel with the sanding sponge, then remove the excess sawdust with a damp cloth. This way, the paint will adhere better to the surface.
2. Paint each panel your chosen colour with the help of the paint roller. Let dry, then apply a second coat of paint. Let dry again.
3. Draw a horizontal line (with the help of the level) on the wall. In order to know at what height to draw the line, measure the width of one board, and draw your line at that height. This line will enable you to install your first row of panels, while making sure that all the panels installed above this line are at the same height.
4. Install the first panel on the aforementioned line, receiving joint on top. Choose panels with identical widths for your first row. Put construction glue on the back of each panel, glue to the wall, and affix with the nail gun (nails should be in the receiving joint). Finish the installation by gluing one row out of four with the construction glue.
5. Measure the leftover distance precisely when you reach the end of a row and it becomes necessary to cut a panel in order to finish the row. Copy the same measurement onto a panel with the measuring tape, and draw a straight line across the width of the panel with the pencil and bracket. Cut the panel with the circular saw.
6. Interlock each subsequent row of panels into the last by inserting the new panel into the last’s receiving joint. From one row to the next, space out the joints by approximately 16 inches, and choose panels of varying thickness.
Our Duo line
To give depth to your walls, there is nothing better than rectangular HDF panels from MURdesign’s Duo line. Made out of 100% recycled wood, they’re easy to install both horizontally or vertically, and they give your walls a lovely textured look. Use panels of varying width and thickness to create a funky design, or choose identical panels to create a more streamlined look. Available in 3 sizes (32 in x 6 in, 32 in x 8 in et 48 in x 8 in) as well as two different thicknesses, they’re sold with a white finish (using non-VOC paint)… meaning you can paint over them however you’d like!
